Norris Tops Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
Lando Norris has outperformed his teammate at all of the last five grands prix.
Lando Norris narrowly beat team-mate and championship contender the Australian for the top spot in the final moments of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
The British racer, who seized the points lead from his teammate by one point after his victory in the Mexican Grand Prix two weeks ago, outpaced the Melbourne-born driver by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Earlier in the session, Oscar Piastri had been the leading McLaren during the running before the sprint shootout scheduled for 18:30 GMT.
Max Verstappen, the sole remaining contender in the points battle, lying 36 points Norris, ended up in 17th position as his Red Bull team opted for a alternative strategy.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to go off, albeit lightly, when he spun at corner four early in the session.
Tsunoda spun out over the track edges before rotating through the escape zone, and was fortunate to avoid just a minor contact of the wall.
The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also had a spin, at the very end of the practice, spinning around through the high-speed corner leading to the final bend on to the start-finish straight.
Hamilton ended the session in P19, trailing teammate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren pair were far ahead of the other competitors, with the German's Sauber P3, 0.619secs off Piastri's best.
Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was fourth quickest, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto fifth from the Mercedes of Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
